Van Halen - The album "1984" made the band into mainstream. I remember when I listened to that songs that climbed up the chart with amazing leap. Girls danced when they heard the song. It marked their dynamic music shift from previous guitar featured rock to Synth featured rock but this one still retains good-ol' rockin' style as shown in TOP JIMMY and HOT FOR TEACHER.PANAMA is still one of my #1 favorite Van Halen song. Guitar solo of I'LL WAIT still rings in my ears. Two styles clash. Everyone knows the classic "Jump", which was number 1 on the pop charts for 5 weeks. Clearly the use of synthesizer in that song--including along with Eddie's guitar solo--showed that this was something a little different from past VH efforts. But for sure, it still rocks!
The band opted for Keyboard fetured rock and Dave chose the straight ahead rock the band had been searching. So the eventual breakup was inevitable. Dave became solo and the band survived with the new amazing singer SAMMY HAGAR. Yep another golden years for VAN HALEN has not yet to come.
Overall, despite a brief running time of 33 minutes--and a couple of bumps along the road--"1984" is solid from start to finish. It's a must-buy for any VH fan and any fan of 1980s popular culture.
1984 ist das sechste Album der amerikanischen Hard-Rock-Band Van Halen. 1984 ist vermutlich Van Halens bekanntestes Album und bis A Different Kind of Truth von 2012 das letzte Album mit dem Sänger David Lee Roth. Dieser verließ die Band im folgenden Jahr aufgrund von Spannungen mit Eddie Van Halen und startete eine Solokarriere.
1984 erreichte Position 2 der Billboard Albumcharts. An erster Position lag zu dieser Zeit das Album Thriller, bei dem Eddie Van Halen an Beat It ebenfalls mitgewirkt hatte.
Obwohl Eddie Van Halen zuvor nur als brillanter Gitarrist bekannt war, spielte er auf dem Album die Keyboard-Parts ein, die besonders die Songs I'll Wait und das Intro zu 1984 prägen.
1984 sollte auf den ausdrücklichen Wunsch der Band hin noch im Jahre 1983 veröffentlicht werden. Zum Einen wohl, um die Serie, seit sechs Jahren je ein Album pro Jahr herausgebracht zu haben, nicht abreißen zu lassen, zum Anderen, um einem Verbot von Zigaretten auf Albumcovers zuvorzukommen, das 1984 eingeführt werden sollte.
Das Album ist eines der beiden Van-Halen-Alben, die alleine in den USA mehr als 10 Millionen Mal verkauft wurden. Im Jahr 2009 erreichte es in Deutschland Platinstatus.[1] Es wird als Meilenstein in der Geschichte des Rock angesehen. Das Stück Jump war einer der größten Hits des Jahres 1984 und gehörte zu den zehn am häufigsten im Radio gespielten Songs des Jahres. Von der Single wurden mehr als drei Millionen Platten verkauft.
Der Song Panama wurde ebenfalls als Single veröffentlicht und erreichte Platz 13 der Charts. Der Song wurde 2005 für das Videospiel Gran Turismo 4 erneut aufgegriffen.
