ASIA -XXX. The album features the original members of the band, namely John Wetton, Carl Palmer, Steve Howe, and Geoff Downes, and on first listen, it is unmistakably Asia. The guys have still got the magic that catapulted this ‘supergroup’ to stardom 30 years ago.
For those of us that are old enough to remember these true giants of the music world the first time around, this album is a reminder of just how great they actually were at the start of their career. Starting at the very top unfortunately left them with one direction to go, and their career was short lived. I for one am glad that this album has been made, as it’s a direct link to my childhood, but more to the point, it’s a piece of modern history, marking a new chapter in one of the truly great bands of my lifetime. This album is one of my essential albums for 2012, you simply shouldn’t miss out on it. Flying Colors.  Joining the legendary drummer in Flying Colors is guitar icon Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs, Kansas), keyboardist Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic), bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs, Joe Satriani, Steve Morse Band) and vocalist Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev, Endochine). The album was produced by Peter Collins (Rush, Alice Cooper, Queensrÿche), who coincidentally picked the band’s name.
This album is an ode to diversity. Every track flows like a river from a singular origin, yet where it travels from there is a journey to anywhere and everywhere.  Experiencing Flying Colors is like listening to everything you’ve ever heard, in a way you’ve never heard it before. A band with this much talent and such a collective body of work has little need for ecomiums, but they are deserved none-the-less. Flying Colors is an artistic, ambitious, vibrant, and evocative trip into the past. An album packed with multigenerational sonic majesty, with a fresh perspective.
